Academic Catalog: Data Science Certificate

Certificate Structure: 4 Courses with an Optional Capstone (see below)

Data 1: Dealing with Data

This course (PSYC 199*) uses real data to introduce students to the basics of data science. (*Same as ECON 199, POLS 199, and SOC 199.)
Data 2: Foundations of Data Sci

This course (PSYC 399*) teaches students foundational skills and knowledge to develop data-driven solutions to problems and questions in the world. (*Same as ECON 399, POLS 399, and SOC 399.)
Data Science in Context

Data science in context works to place data science in the larger context. Students pick one course from a set of classes from across the College to hone their skills in communication skills, ethics, and reproducibility.
Data Science Connector

Data science connector courses give students the opportunity to apply their data acumen within their chosen major. There are a number of courses available for the connector courses.

Accelerated Graduate Study Opportunities

Undergraduate students who complete a Data Science Certificate will receive preferred admission to the KU M.S. in Business Analytics program with potential exemption from the GMAT. Students will also have their admission fee waived for the KUMC M.S. in Applied Statistics, Analytics, and Data Science Program. Certificate recipients do not need to take additional steps to claim these benefits, but are encouraged to reach out with questions.

Community Data Lab

The Community Data Lab is a unique course where students work in teams to develop data-driven solutions for problems faced by local, state, and regional organizations.
